Introducing December's Honours Student of the Month: Janine Truong 1. “How have you enjoyed your experience as an Honours student so far?” So far it has been really great! It is a lot of hard work but it has definitely been a fun and challenging experience. Everyone at the Cancer Centre is so nice and I enjoy being at the lab. 2. “Tell us about your research project” My lab is investigating glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), which is an extremely aggressive type of brain cancer. Improper asymmetric cell division (ACD) may contribute to the development of GBM so I am characterizing a protein that is involved in regulating ACD. 3. “What advice would you have for other undergraduate researchers?” Do your readings. It is dry and time-consuming but having a solid understanding of your project gives you a greater appreciation for what you are doing. And don't be afraid to question your project and methodology. Ideas are always welcome! 4. “What's the most embarrassing thing you've done in the lab?” I once did my Western blot transfer backwards so all my protein went to the paper instead of the membrane. It was 5 pm on a Friday. It was time go home. Photo creds: Suzy Sun
